About us ! Around 15 to 20 years ago, when the Horticulture Department first introduced kiwi farming in Ziro Valley, Arunachal Pradesh it created quite a buzz. The idea that a fruit, known for being cultivated in a foreign country like New Zealand and considered luxurious, could grow in our homeland was both surprising and exciting. Public leaders, the horticulture department, and the general public were all thrilled. Everyone wanted to see the kiwi fruit and grow it in their gardens. However, the initial saplings were distributed only to a few prominent individuals, leaving the common people unaware of how to procure them. One day, during my college years in Guwahati, Assam I bought a few kiwi fruits out of curiosity while returning home. I was so excited to show them to my mother. When I did, she too was eager to see what all the fuss was about. But the moment she saw the fruit, her excitement faded. With a puzzled expression, she said, "So this is what they call 'kiwi' and make such a big deal about? We’ve been eating this forever! It’s the same as Enteri Ayi, which grows naturally in our forests. Back in the day, we used to bring it home in baskets during the season."That was the moment I realized that what the world called “kiwi” was none other than Enteri Ayi, a fruit that had grown naturally in Ziro Valley for generations. Intrigued, I ventured into the forest myself, and to my amazement, I found it effortlessly. In fact, in earlier times, people would build watchtowers (machans) near these fruit-bearing areas to hunt animals like deer and wild boar, which were drawn to the ripe fruits.Years later, after completing my college education and while working a job, I once took my elder brother to Chennai's Apollo Hospital for treatment. On the doctor's advice, I went to a shopping mall to buy kiwis. To my shock, one piece of kiwi fruit was priced between ₹40 and ₹100, depending on its size. It was disheartening to think that the same kiwi, sold in Ziro Valley at ₹40 to ₹80 per kilogram back then (now ₹100 to ₹300), was being sold at such exorbitant rates. Moreover, the quality of the fruit was poor—sour and bland.I felt frustrated knowing that something as beneficial for health as kiwi was unaffordable for many Indians. I realized that middlemen were eating up most of the profits, leaving farmers underpaid while consumers bore the burden of inflated prices. That’s when I decided to bridge this gap. As an educated tribal youth, I wanted to connect farmers directly with consumers, ensuring fair prices for both. For years, I couldn't act on this idea as I was posted outside Ziro Valley. However, when I finally returned to my hometown, I delved into serious research and planning. What you see today is the result of my efforts. I aim to promote kiwi farming, offer fresh, high-quality kiwis at fair prices to the rest of India, and uplift the farmers of Ziro Valley by ensuring they receive the value they deserve. If there’s any room for improvement in my efforts or story, I welcome your constructive feedback with an open heart.
